The speculation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
